What’s the one question we all ask ourselves the day after Thanksgiving? What to do with those turkey leftovers! Throughout Thanksgiving weekend every time I open the fridge, I ponder how to salvage the remains of our feast. My Low-Carb Turkey Hash is the answer to that perennial Thanksgiving question, what to do with leftover turkey?!

Easy Low-Carb Turkey Hash Recipe

Low-Carb Turkey Hash is made with 3 main ingredients. Onion, squash, and turkey form this incredible low-carb comfort food. These leftovers will warm your belly and empty your refrigerator the day after Thanksgiving. I’ve been gluten-free since I was diagnosed with celiac in 1998, so this, like all of my recipes, is a gluten-free, grain-free, low-carb turkey hash!

Thanksgiving Leftovers

I often have leftover squash or pumpkin after Thanksgiving. That’s because I usually make extra for my beloved Vegan Pumpkin Pie. If you want to learn how to cook pumpkin from scratch instead of using the stuff from the can, check out my How to Roast Pumpkin post.

Add Green Vegetables Leftover from Thanksgiving

You may want to try throwing some leftover greens such as Brussel sprouts, kale, or spinach in this hash. The sky’s the limit when it comes to making dishes out of Thanksgiving leftovers. This is a basic recipe template for you. Feel free to add herbs and spices and toss in everything but the kitchen sink. We love this topped with leftover Cranberry Cherry Sauce.

Paleo Date Walnut Bread

Paleo Date Walnut Bread

, , Elana’s Pantry, http://www.elanaspantry.com/paleo-date-walnut-bread/,

This is not your typical Date Walnut Bread, this is Paleo Date Walnut Bread. This bread is purely fruit sweetened, and has no honey, maple syrup, agave or other processed sweeteners. Because of this, the bread is not as sweet, or dessert-like as other breads of mine such as my Paleo Chocolate Zucchini Bread.

During the last year, I’ve worked on lowering the amount of sweeteners in my recipes, and this bread is a prime example of that.

This gluten-free, grain-free bread is heavier and more bread-like than my dessert breads which are light, fluffy, and cake-like. Paleo Date Walnut Bread is perfect with a side of eggs for a paleo breakfast. With super food ingredients including almond flour and walnuts, this naturally sweetened paleo bread is the perfect paleo treat.

Paleo Chocolate Chip Scones

Paleo Chocolate Chip Scones

, , Elana’s Pantry, http://www.elanaspantry.com/paleo-chocolate-chip-scones/,

I really don’t write a lot on my website because:

  1. I’m not a writer.
  2. I figure you all come here for the recipes anyway.
  3. What’s the point? I like short and sweet. Literally.

Every now and then though, I do get the itch to write just a bit. And this recent comment on Facebook tickled my writing fancy:

I absolutely adore your recipes. I’ve been Paleo for over a year and feel/look amazing. I have to ask, though, aren’t treats such as Paleo baked goods supposed to be a very occasional treat? It seems that they’re being posted on a near daily basis.

And this was my response:

You are totally right, however I have a houseful of almost a dozen growing boys here everyday after school and they aren’t Paleo (most aren’t even gluten-free) so they get at least a Paleo treat a day –far better than the standard teenage fare of soda and chips, if you know what I mean!

Why the heck are there so many dessert and bread recipes on here? Well, it’s not that much of a challenge to come up with a Paleo chicken recipe –they’re all over the internet. Just sift through the websites of people like Martha, Ina, and Elise, and you’ll likely find some nice healthy steak and vegetable dishes as well. They’re probably gluten-free and maybe even Paleo. However, when it comes to finding baked goods that are of course treats, well, that’s not as easy, and that it is something I provide on this website –I create classic Neolithic dishes (like these Paleo Chocolate Chip Scones) that use Paleo-friendly ingredients.

Further confirming this hunch is the list of the Top 10 Most Viewed Recipes on my sidebar; just crank your eyes over a few inches to the right and take a gander at that feature. As you can see, folks look at, and I assume therefore want, baked goods. And so I am pretty much always testing something, and thankfully, the hordes of boys that come to my house after school take pleasure in eating the items that I am continuously testing.

And now back to our regular programming:

Paleo Honey Cake recipes

Paleo Honey Cake recipes

, , Elana’s Pantry, https://elanaspantry.com/paleo-honey-cake/,

This easy Paleo Honey Cake recipe is fan-favorite made with healthy low-carb almond flour. I love turning classic desserts into wholesome gluten-free versions that everyone can eat.

What is Honey Cake?

Honey Cake, a traditional Jewish dessert eaten during Rosh Hashanah, is referred to as Lebkuchen in Yiddish. I love serving it at our High Holiday table whether for Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur break fast. We’ve been breaking our fast with warming, comforting foods since my Ayurvedic training in the early 1990’s. This lightly sweetened apple dessert, spiced with cinnamon fits that bill perfectly.

What is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and the start of the High Holidays for Jews. Traditionally, we eat honey during this time as the ritual sets the tone for a sweet year to come. The custom of dipping apples in honey at the Rosh Hashanah meal has been one of the boys’ favorite since they were very little!

SCD Paleo Honey Cake

Most honey cake recipes include coffee. I left it out of this one to simplify the recipe and make it even easier. My husband, who has no dietary restrictions, loves this cake! As you can see from the photo above, a large piece has been devoured. One of our friends said this was the best honey cake she had ever eaten, gluten-free or not!
